Akkreditierungsagentur für Studiengänge im Bereich Heilpädagogik, Pflege, Gesundheit und Soziale Arbeit (AHPGS) is a German programme-accreditation agency founded in 2002 and headquartered in Freiburg. It specialises in health sciences, pharmacy, nursing, physiotherapy, social work, and related social-science disciplines. AHPGS is a full member of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) and is listed on the European Quality Assurance Register (EQAR). That dual status means an AHPGS-accredited programme carries recognised quality signals across the European Higher Education Area — but it does not guarantee automatic degree recognition or professional licensure in any specific country. Each destination country and its competent authority makes its own decision.
TRNC universities holding AHPGS accreditation
Two TRNC universities hold programmatic AHPGS accreditation, with overlapping but distinct scope.
[EUL] European University of Lefke — accreditation covers: "Finance and Banking, Economy, Political Science & Public Administration, Health Management, Pharmacy, Nursing, Tourism Management, Physiotherapy & Rehabilitation, Psychology, Nutrition & Dietetics." The scope is notably broad, extending beyond health into business and social sciences.
[CIU] Cyprus International University — accreditation covers: "Pharmacy (MPharm/PharmD), Law (TR/EN), Nutrition & Dietetics, Physiotherapy & Rehab, Molecular Biology & Genetics." The scope is more concentrated on health and science programmes, with law included in both language tracks.
If your target programme appears in both lists, compare the specific credential type and delivery language before deciding.
What to verify
- Confirm your exact programme — not just the faculty or department — appears on the AHPGS published programme register at the URL below.
- Check the valid-until date on the accreditation certificate; programmatic accreditations are time-limited and must be renewed.
- If you plan to practise a regulated profession (pharmacy, physiotherapy, nursing) in a specific country, contact that country's competent licensure authority directly. AHPGS accreditation is one input they may consider, not a guarantee of eligibility.
- For recognition within Germany or other EHEA states, approach the relevant national recognition body (such as anabin in Germany) with the full accreditation documentation.
