Medical education — Türkiye national accreditor

1 TRNC universityOfficial site

No accreditation is automatic recognition everywhere.

TEPDAD accreditation is a quality signal that supports recognition in specific contexts. For the country-recognition path — who decides whether YOUR specific degree is honoured for licensure where you live — see our country recognition pages.

Tıp Eğitimi Programlarını Değerlendirme ve Akreditasyon Derneği (TEPDAD) is Türkiye's national accreditation body for undergraduate and postgraduate medical education programmes. Founded in 2007 and based in Türkiye, it reviews medical faculties against standards aligned with the World Federation for Medical Education (WFME), which lists TEPDAD as a recognised accreditor. In practice, TEPDAD accreditation is the primary quality signal used by Türkiye's Council of Higher Education (YÖK) when processing degree-equivalency applications — a relevant pathway for graduates who intend to practise medicine in Türkiye. TEPDAD accreditation does not confer automatic recognition in other countries, and it carries no direct standing in EU, US, or UK licensure systems.

TRNC universities holding TEPDAD accreditation

Only one TRNC university in our database holds TEPDAD accreditation.

  • EMU — Eastern Mediterranean University · Scope: programmatic · "Faculty of Medicine — Medicine (joint with Marmara University)"

The joint structure with Marmara University is material here. The TEPDAD accreditation applies to this programme specifically because of that partnership with a Turkish state university, not to EMU's medical faculty as a freestanding entity. Graduates from this joint programme are positioned to pursue YÖK Denklik recognition for Turkish state medical practice. No other TRNC university in our database holds TEPDAD accreditation, making EMU the sole option in North Cyprus for a TEPDAD-accredited medical degree.

What to verify

Before relying on TEPDAD accreditation as the basis for any licensing or equivalency decision, check the following:

  1. Confirm the specific programme — "Faculty of Medicine — Medicine (joint with Marmara University)" — appears on TEPDAD's published accredited-programmes register, not just the faculty listing.
  2. Check the valid-until date on that register entry; accreditation cycles are finite and renewal is not automatic.
  3. If you intend to practise medicine outside Türkiye, contact the relevant national licensure authority directly — TEPDAD standing alone is not a substitute for that authority's own requirements.
  4. For YÖK Denklik specifics, consult YÖK directly alongside TEPDAD confirmation.

Always verify against the body's register. Accreditation status changes — programmes are added, removed, and re-evaluated on published cycles. Use the TEPDAD site to confirm a specific programme's current status before relying on it.
