Akkreditierungsagentur für Studiengänge der Ingenieurwissenschaften, der Informatik, der Naturwissenschaften und der Mathematik (ASIIN) is a German accreditation agency founded in 1999. It focuses exclusively on technical disciplines: engineering, informatics, natural sciences, and mathematics. ASIIN evaluates individual programmes against defined quality standards and, where criteria are met, can award the EUR-ACE label for engineering programmes and the Euro-Inf label for informatics — both of which signal alignment with European-wide quality benchmarks. ASIIN is listed in EQAR, the European Quality Assurance Register, meaning its processes meet ENQA standards. That listing carries weight inside the European Higher Education Area, but it does not translate into automatic professional recognition or guaranteed equivalence in every country.
TRNC universities holding ASIIN accreditation
Three TRNC universities hold ASIIN accreditation, each at the programme level. Their scopes differ considerably.
- [EUL] European University of Lefke — accreditation covers three named programmes: "Electronics and Communication, Software Engineering, Management Information Systems." Targeted scope; students in other EUL faculties should not assume coverage.
- [NEU] Near East University — accreditation listed at the level of "Faculty of Engineering." This is broader in description, but individual programme status should still be confirmed on ASIIN's register.
- [EMU] Eastern Mediterranean University — accreditation covers the "School of Computing & Technology — Information Systems and Technologies, Information Technology (B.S.+M.Tech.)." Note this includes both an undergraduate and a postgraduate track, making it one of the more specific scope descriptions among TRNC holders.
What to verify
Before relying on ASIIN accreditation for any professional or academic purpose, check the following:
- Confirm your specific programme appears on ASIIN's published programme database — faculty-level descriptions can be misleading.
- Check the accreditation valid-until date; status lapses if not renewed.
- If you plan to practise as an engineer or IT professional in a target country, cross-reference with that country's national licensure or recognition authority. EUR-ACE and Euro-Inf labels support comparability claims but do not substitute for local professional registration.
- For Türkiye-specific recognition, consult MÜDEK, the Turkish engineering accreditation body and Washington Accord signatory.
