Cyprus International University runs a paid, appointment-based center that edits, proofreads, and translates student and academic writing.

If you study at Cyprus International University (CIU) and struggle with academic English, there is a campus office for that. The Academic Writing Support Center (AWSC) edits and proofreads homework, master's and doctorate theses, and articles. It also offers project-writing guidance, face-to-face counseling, and translation.

For international students, this matters because thesis and article writing in a second language is one of the harder parts of postgraduate study in North Cyprus. A language problem in a thesis draft can cost you time with your supervisor or even affect how your work is graded. AWSC exists specifically to catch those problems before submission.

Where it is and how to book

AWSC sits on the second floor of the Education and Humanities Center, which also houses the School of Foreign Languages. You can reach the office by phone on extension 2514 or 2509, or by emailing awsc@ciu.edu.tr.

The service runs on an appointment system, not walk-ins. To apply, send a draft of your paper to the email address above and request a meeting slot. CIU says applicants get a confirmation email within two working days, along with a scheduled time to meet an academic staff member.

Once the review is done, staff hand back the edited, translated, or proofread version at room EH 214, or send it by email if you ask. The service is not free: a fee is paid to the Accounting Office before you receive the finished document. The source does not list a price, so check with the Accounting Office directly before booking.

Practical notes

This is a CIU-specific service, so it only applies if you are enrolled there. Other TRNC universities may run similar writing centers under different names, worth checking with your own faculty office if you are elsewhere.

If you are still weighing which university to attend and academic support is a factor, compare how different TRNC universities structure student services on /universities, or check program-level detail on /programs. If cost planning matters as you budget for extras like editing fees, the /calculator tool can help you map total costs beyond tuition.
