Who Needs a Student Residence Permit in North Cyprus

If you are studying for an associate, bachelor's, master's, or doctoral degree at a TRNC higher education institution, you are required to hold a Student Residence Permit. This applies to all foreign nationals enrolled at that level, according to the Ministry of Interior's Immigration Department (Muhaceret Dairesi).

Applications go through the department's own online system, not a paper counter. You complete the steps on the official portal (icisleri.gov.ct.tr) rather than submitting a walk-in request from scratch.

There is a separate, simpler path for a specific group: foreign students who are 18 or older but still finishing secondary school. For them, the permit is issued once they prove they are still enrolled, with no further conditions attached. The required documents are a valid passport, a valid student certificate, and the tax office receipt showing the permit fee has been paid.

One detail worth flagging for anyone booking flights: the department states that a student intending to get this permit must enter the TRNC on a valid passport. If your passport is close to expiring, renew it before you travel, not after.
