Architecture in North Cyprus: 8 schools, 3 accreditation frameworks, one decision

Architecture has the widest accreditation gap in the TRNC catalogue. A NAAB-stamped degree gets you on the path to US licensure; a MİAK or EAAE listing maps to different professional registers; programs with neither still award a YÖDAK-recognized diploma but leave the credential-recognition work to the graduate.

What each accreditation stack unlocks

EMU

  • NAAB-accredited Bachelor of Architecture (the only NAAB-accredited Architecture degree on the island)
  • MİAK-accredited — the Turkish counterpart for Mimarlık Akreditasyon Kurulu recognition
  • CIDA on Interior Architecture for North-American interior-design licensure pathways

CIU

  • MİAK-accredited Architecture program — direct Türkiye-track recognition
  • Standard 50% international scholarship pulls the after-scholarship rate down sharply

EUL

  • MiAK-accredited Architecture program
  • AQAS European accreditation on Architecture plus Interior Architecture

GAU

  • EAAE (European Association for Architectural Education) listing
  • Established Faculty of Architecture, Design and Fine Arts — long-running program

NEU

  • Baseline YÖK + YÖDAK institutional recognition; no current Architecture-specific international accreditation listing
  • Large architecture cohort and active studio infrastructure

ARUCAD

  • Architecture sits inside a creative-arts-and-design-only university — different cohort culture than general-faculty alternatives
  • Standard 50% scholarship plus portfolio-based 75/90/100% tiers

BAU

  • Architecture inside the BAU Global Education Network; possible semester exchange to BAU sister campuses (Berlin, Rome, DC, Istanbul)
  • Uniform $7,140 tuition; UK ENIC + ANABIN (Germany) institutional credential recognition

FIU

  • Architecture inside the Faculty of Architecture & Fine Arts
  • Baseline YÖK + YÖDAK recognition; partner-university dual-degree pathways are the distinctive credentialing route

How to choose

If your end goal involves US architectural licensure(NCARB pathway), EMU’s NAAB accreditation is the only direct credential on the island. If you plan to register in Türkiye or work within Turkish-system jurisdictions, MİAK (EMU, CIU, EUL) is the relevant stamp. For European mobility, EAAE listing (GAU) and AQAS (EUL) carry weight. For programs without architecture-specific international accreditation, your YÖK/YÖDAK diploma is the baseline — credential-recognition work for the country you want to practice in becomes your responsibility post-graduation.
