Where TRNC degrees are recognized — the 5 biggest markets
Most international applicants to North Cyprus come from a small number of countries — Nigeria, India, Pakistan, Iran and Bangladesh together account for the majority of the international cohort. This matrix maps which TRNC universities hold the accreditations that actually unlock professional registration in each of those markets.

Strong = named on the country’s own regulator list, or at least one programmatic accreditation directly recognized by its professional regulator. Conditional = a regulator listing with limits (COREN accreditation awaiting renewal, MSRT group C, which does not count for a PhD, PCN-accredited pharmacy whose graduates still sit PCN’s orientation and exam), an accreditation the regulator does not itself recognise (ABET in Nigeria, WFME claims where NMC keeps no school list), institutional accreditation in a Commonwealth-aligned framework (UK ENIC, ANABIN) or a single directory listing (WDOMS, ASIC). How each country’s recognition framework works

🇳🇬 Nigeria
The Federal Ministry of Education evaluates every foreign degree first (online since 15 April 2026; NYSC needs the evaluation letter). Then MDCN (medicine, assessment exam), COREN (engineering, registration decided per graduate) or PCN (pharmacy) registers the graduate.
🇮🇳 India
NMC governs medical recognition: its 2021 regulations set criteria for the course and the student, it keeps no list of approved foreign schools, and the FMGE / NExT exam is mandatory.
🇵🇰 Pakistan
PMDC lists the foreign medical schools it recognises; Near East University's Faculty of Medicine is the only North Cyprus entry. HEC decides degree equivalence case by case after graduation. PEC registers engineers; ABET / MÜDEK / EUR-ACE map most cleanly.
🇮🇷 Iran
The Ministry of Science (MSRT) grades foreign universities A, B or C; EMU and NEU are group C, which counts for bachelor's and master's but not for a PhD. MOHME (Ministry of Health) keeps its own annual list for medical fields.
🇧🇩 Bangladesh
BMDC (medicine), professional councils for other fields. UK ENIC and Commonwealth-recognized accreditations carry weight.
How to use this matrix
The matrix is a quick filter, not a final answer. A Strong cell means there is at least one directly-recognized accreditation; it does not guarantee every program at that university is covered, nor that recognition will still apply at your graduation date. A Limitedcell does not mean the degree is unrecognizable — it means you should expect to navigate the country’s standard foreign-credential assessment, often including a qualification examination and document apostille.
For any combination of (university, country) you’re considering, verify directly with the relevant regulator before committing money. Recognition rules change without notice; UniNorth’s data is verified on a 14-day cadence but the regulator’s own current register is the canonical source.
